James G. Henry, MD, FACC
General Cardiology

Dr. Henry was born in Tulsa, Oklahoma and graduated from the University of Oklahoma Medical School. He trained in pediatrics and pediatric cardiology at Children's Hospital in Cincinnati, OH. Since 1977, he has been serving the Pediatric Cardiology needs of the children of the Tampa Bay area and the entire west coast of Florida. As the senior member of the Pediatric Cardiology group, he takes great pride in its continuing growth and in directing quality management.

Jorge M. Giroud, MD, FACC
Invasive Cardiology
Affiliate Associate Professor Pediatrics, USF

Dr. Giroud was born in Cuba and came to the United States as a young child. He graduated from medical school at Northwestern University in Chicago, IL. He completed his pediatric residency at Jackson Memorial Hospital/University of Miami, in Miami, FL. Following a brief period as a general pediatrician in the United States Navy, he returned to Miami where he completed both a Pediatric Cardiology, as well as a Pediatric Critical Care fellowship. Dr. Giroud initially obtained board certification in both areas and currently is board certified in Pediatric Cardiology.

Dr. Giroud has been practicing pediatric cardiology in the Tampa Bay Area since 1983. He has been instrumental in the development of Pediatric Interventional Cardiology for the region, allowing many cardiac defects to be improved or corrected without the need for surgical interventions.

In addition to invasive cardiology, Dr. Giroud's interests include public health policy, the application of computer technology to the practice of medicine and acting as an advocate for the rights of quality medical care for children with heart disease. He has served as chairman for the Cardiac Advisory Council for Children's Medical Services and also is a past President of the Florida Association of Pediatric Cardiologists.

Richard M. Martinez, MD, FACC
Non-Invasive Cardiology
Affiliate Professor Pediatrics, USF

Dr. Martinez is a native Floridian from Tampa. He attended Jesuit High School in Tampa, did undergraduate studies at the University of Florida, and graduated from the University of South Florida College of Medicine. He completed his residency in pediatrics and did a fellowship in pediatric cardiology at the Children's Hospital Medical Center in Cincinnati, Ohio. Dr. Martinez joined Pediatric Cardiology Associates and the department of pediatrics at the University of South Florida, College of Medicine in 1986 where he has been serving the children of Tampa Bay, as well as those from Central and Southwest Florida, ever since.

Dr. Martinez was the Director of Non-Invasive Cardiology at All Children's Hospital, 1992-1999. He was also the Chief of Staff at All Children's Hospital, 2000-2001. Dr. Martinez's primary interests are fetal and pediatric transthoracic and transesophageal echocardiography as well as exercise testing. In addition, he has developed a program for adults with congenital heart disease, thus continuing the care for children with congenital heart disease into adulthood.

Jorge McCormack, MD, FACC
Electrophysiology
Affiliate Associate Professor Pediatrics, USF
Chief Executive Officer, PCA

Dr. McCormack was born in Cuba and raised in Puerto Rico.

After graduating from University of Puerto Rico School of Medicine, he performed his pediatric residency at Baylor College of Medicine. It was here that his interests in Pediatric Cardiology and, in particular, electrophysiology developed. He was recipient of a NIH Research Training award, which sponsored his research in developmental electrophysiology during his fellowship in Pediatric Cardiology at the University of Miami. His research work earned third place in the American Academy of Pediatrics Young Investigators Award.

After completion of his training in Pediatric Cardiology, he went to Loma Linda University, becoming a member of Pediatric Cardiac transplant program while researching transplant electrophysiology. In 1992, he moved to the Tampa Bay area and participated in the creation of a Pediatric Heart Transplant program at All Children's Hospital. He also developed a Pediatric Electrophysiology Program at Tampa General and, more recently, at Tampa Children's Hospital and All Children's Hospital. His practice is dedicated to Pediatric Electrophysiology including the management of arrhythmias, pacemakers and syncope.

He is currently the Chief Executive Officer of the practice.

Alfred Asante-Korang, MD, FACC
Transplant Cardiology
Clinical Associate Professor of Pediatrics, USF

Dr. Asante-Korang graduated from the University of Ghana Medical School. He completed a four-year pediatric residency in England at University of Liverpool/Royal Liverpool Children's Hospital where he obtained his Membership of the Royal College of Physicians (MRCP) qualification in 1991. In 1993, Dr. Asante-Korang was a recipient of the prestigious Sydney Windsor Cardiology Fellowship award at Dalhousie University, Canada. He then moved to the United States where he completed a senior residency at the University of Chicago, IL. His pediatric cardiology fellowship was completed at the University of Pittsburgh/Children's Hospital in 1996. It was at this facility where he developed his interest in transplant cardiology.

Dr. Asante-Korang is the Medical Director of the Heart Transplant Progam at All Children's Hospital/University of South Florida, and focuses his practice in cardiac transplantation, general pediatric cardiology, echocardiography and diagnostic cardiac catheterizations.

James C. Huhta, MD, FACC
Perinatal Cardiology
Professor of Pediatrics, Ob/Gyn, USF

Dr. Huhta attended college and medical school at the University of Wisconsin at Madison. After completing his pediatric residency at the University of Alabama, he attended the Mayo Clinic where he completed a pediatric cardiology fellowship. He proceeded to London, England where he was a senior registrar at the Hospital for Sick Children. He began his career in pediatric cardiology at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, where he published numerous works in the field of pediatric echocardiography. After only six years at Baylor, he was recruited by the University of Pennsylvania as Professor of Pediatrics and became Chief of Pediatric Cardiology Services at Children's Hospital of Philadelphia. While in Philadelphia, he also began the section of perinatal cardiology at Pennsylvania Hospital, our nation's first hospital.

In 1996, Dr. Huhta and his wife came to Tampa Bay where he is currently a clinical Professor of Pediatrics at the University of South Florida School of Medicine and Director of Non-Invasive Cardiology at All Children's and Tampa Children's Hospitals. Dr. Huhta has been instrumental in developing PCA's fetal and perinatal cardiology program. This program detects congenital heart disease, collaborates with obstetricians in the evaluation of fetal health, and anticipates the baby's needs once it is born.

In July 2003, he was awarded the Daicoff-Andrews Chair in Perinatal Cardiology at the University of South Florida.

Elsa J. Suh, MD, FACC
Invasive Cardiology

Dr. Suh was born in Korea and raised in North Carolina. She attended Smith College in Massachusetts where she graduated magna cum laude in biochemistry. She graduated from Duke University School of Medicine and then completed her residency in pediatrics at New York University Medical Center. She obtained a basic science research grant from the American Heart Association where her work was carried out at Rockefeller University/Cornell Medical Center. Her pediatric cardiology fellowship was performed at Children's Hospital in Philadelphia/University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine. Performing and completing post-graduate training in Interventional, she remained at the Children's Hospital in Philadelphia as their Assistant Professor of Pediatrics.

Dr. Suh moved to the Tampa Bay area in 1996. Her work focuses primarily on invasive cardiology, but also includes sophisticated cardiac catheterizations, which may eliminate the need for open-heart surgery in children. She is also very involved with PCA's pacemaker service.

J. Blaine John, MD
Non-Invasive and Fetal Cardiology

Dr. John is a native Floridian, born and raised in Pensacola. He was awarded his Bachelor of Science degree from Davidson College in North Carolina, where he designed his own major in Medical Humanities. He graduated cum laude as a member of Phi Beta Kappa. He received his Medical Degree from Jefferson Medical College in Philadelphia, where he graduated with honors as a member of Alpha Omega Alpha. Dr. John then received the MAP-Reader's Digest International Fellowship and the Christian Medical Society's Westra Fellowship for his medical missionary work in Zambia, Africa. Dr. John returned to Florida and completed a Pediatrics Residency at the University of Florida. He trained in Pediatric Cardiology at Baylor College of Medicine, where he then completed advanced training in Non-Invasive and Fetal Cardiology.

Dr. John's clinical interests include echocardiography, fetal cardiology, and intensive care cardiology. He also enjoys the time he spends teaching the medical students and residents of the University of South Florida. He is currently board certified in both Pediatrics and Pediatric Cardiology.

Dr. John is the proud father of three children.

Daniel E. McKenna, MD
Non-Invasive and Transplant Cardiology

Dr. McKenna was raised in Western New York. He was awarded his Bachelor of Arts with honors from Hamilton College. He received his medical degree from The State University of New York at Buffalo. Dr. McKenna’s Pediatric Residency was completed at Children’s Hospital of Buffalo, NY. He completed a Pediatric Cardiology Fellowship at University of Pittsburgh/Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh. It was while training in Pittsburgh that he developed an interest in cardiac imaging and transplant cardiology.

Dr. McKenna’s clinical interests include pediatric echocardiography, pediatric transplant cardiology, and general pediatric cardiology. He enjoys teaching University of South Florida medical students and residents.

Stephanie A. Kurtz, MD
Pediatric Cardiology

Dr. Kurtz was born and raised in mid-Michigan.
She was awarded a Bachelor of Science degree from Central Michigan University in Biological Sciences.
She received her Medical Degree from Michigan State University College of Human Medicine. Dr. Kurtz’s pediatric residency was completed at University of South Florida/All Children’s Hospital in the Tampa Bay area. She completed her pediatric cardiology fellowship at Children’s Hospital of Michigan.

Dr. Kurtz’s clinical interests include pediatric echocardiography, including fetal and transesophageal echocardiography. She also has an interest in non-invasive electrophysiology

Frances Arrillaga, MD
Pediatric Cardiology

Dr. Arrillaga is a native of Puerto Rico. After earning a bachelors degree in Chemistry and Biochemistry at Brandeis University,she received her doctorate in medicine from the University of Puerto Rico in 1991. She then relocated to Miami Florida where she trained in pediatrics and then pediatric cardiology at the University of Miami. Dr. Arrillaga was then named Gratis Clinical instructor at University of Louisville.
She then returned to Miami, working as an attending pediatric cardiologist at several hospitals.

Dr. Arrillaga joined Pediatric Cardiology Associates in 2006. Her practice is focused on outpatient cardiology and in hospital consultations.

Dr. Arrillaga is the proud mother of two beautiful girls and lives with her family in Tampa.
